-- Windshield

Like most things, I had to make a windshield, starting from scratch. There is a hand drawing of a windshield outline floating around with Monocoupe drawings. I’m pretty sure it is specific to Warner 185 powered clipwings based on the size around the boot cowl (lower windshield base). I made a pattern onto brown paper (from that drawing outline) so I could hold it up in place and see how well it fit my configuration (Warner 145 Model 110). It was kind of close, but not really usable.

This provided a starting point but there was quite a bit of trial and error making patterns that fit properly, starting with poster paper, then moving up to firmer materials, finally ending with a pattern made out of 1/8′′ thick melamine.

Using this pattern, I cut the windshield out of 0.118′′ thick plexiglass using the bandsaw with an 18 tip blade. Hand polished the edges.

Then made trim strips out of 0.032′′ 3003-H14 aluminum.
