I decided on a simple instrument panel with the minimum required instruments. I’m glad I did. My flying is all local on nice days. No need for the added weight or complexity.
I experimented with many different layouts. A major complication is the space, or lack thereof, behind the instrument panel, primarily due to the close proximity to the firewall on the upper half and a cross tube in the middle.
The base panel is 0.063′′ 2024T3 aluminum.
Once all of the cuts had been made in the aluminum panel, it was covered with 1/16′′ thick mahogany veneer.
Then finished with many coats of Poly-Fiber clear varnish.
There is no generator in NC12350, although I have the Warner adapter which supports both a generator and a starter. There is a Y-150 starter installed and it is powered by a small battery which I recharge after each flight.
I installed a Trig TY-91 com radio because this unit has a small control head mounted in the panel and the main radio unit is installed below the baggage compartment behind the seat. I using the Advance Aircraft Electronics antenna. It is mounted behind the baggage compartment, on a strip of spruce, diagonally from lower left longeron to upper right longeron. This is working very well.
